Why We Do What We Do
Aug. 28, 2012 By Candice
Today I wanted to share a bit with all of you as to why we do what we do here at Candice Foods.Back in 1999 I set out on a journey to love and support my nephew, Matthew, who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 4. I spent a lot of time with him and loved baking for him. Once the diagnosis came in his parents had to alter his diet and begin a gluten and casein free diet. So I experimented in my own kitchen, made a lot of mistakes, and to make a long story short, wound up creating a great tasting cookie.
That cookie is what began Aunt Candice Foods. We added mixes to our product lines and sold our ready to eat cookies and mixes throughout stores across the United States. We have a deep heart and passion for children with autism. We participate in the Autism One Conferences and local autism chapters as well.
Although the cookies and mixes were great, through the years we kept hearing the same request from parents: "We want to be able to get more protein in our kids and less sugar." Well, we heard them and responded with our now famous protein bars.
Our protein bars have been a main staple in many households now for going on 11 years now. We are also proud to say that the cost of our protein bars have never gone up since the day we started making them! They are still under $2.00 a bar for a 2oz protein bar that is made with organic ingredients, contains 12 grams of protein and only 9 grams of sugar!
As these years have gone by some things changed in my own life. I have three children and all three are deathly allergic to all tree nuts and peanuts.... so when I say it is personal, trust me it is. I am a mom driven by my passion of wanting to provide a SAFE and HEALTHY protein bar to my own children.
Another change for our company is we dropped the "Aunt" off our name. This was simply due to the fact that marketing felt that this would open up more of a market for more of a variety of clients. We have several that are in the sport fitness arena that eat our bars and I guess they felt that a competitive, male body builder might feel a little odd carrying around a bar that said Aunt Candice's!! I understood and didn't hesitate to make the change.
At Candice Foods our facility is completely free of all the following: gluten, wheat, casein, dairy, corn, soy, egg, peanuts, tree nuts and all additives and preservatives. I can assure you of this as my husband, Thom, is the captain of that ship! So, he too, has a personal investment as well to keep your children safe as well as adults.
I hope some of you were able to see my heart in this blog of mine....
It is an honor to bring your family a safe, tasty and affordable protein bar. Thank you so much for your business!
Sincerely
Candice
